Tough Mudder

I may as well resurrect this thread instead of creating a new one
Tough Mudder virgin here and it's coming up on Saturday (Yorkshire full)

Do you turn up ready to go or get changed there? I've ordered some compression 3/4 shorts, got some trail running trainers and a lightweight base layer top to run in.

I take it there's lockers / bag drop there to take a change of clothes, trainers and maybe (probably not) a shower? Public transport may not be too happy if traveling back covered in mud. I have my start time, 1:15pm so everything some be nice and caked in mud and slippery by then - fantastic

Anything else I need to know?

Not done a Tough Mudder, but I've done half a dozen Spartan Races, which are similar.

Essential gear I've found, are:
  • Compression socks (for the longer distances, to help with cramp)
  • Good grip gloves
  • Compression shorts
  • Compression top
  • Trail running shoes
  • Pre-workout igniter / high caffeine drink
  • BCAAs (for longer distances)
  • Sun cream (if sunny)
I usually show up ready to go and do warm-up / stretch 30 mins before start time. The pre-workout drink gets me rating to go.

Above all, go out there and have fun :).

Thanks Bonjour

Are gloves essential? I rock climb (boulder) and never use gloves but imagine everything will have mud and water on so not the same as dry climbing with chalk

I find the gloves particularly useful for the obstacles that involve gripping ropes, such as rope climb or Hercules hoist. Helps avoid rope burn in addition to the better grip. You'll probably be fine without. They've become part of my standard OCR kit now, though.

I'll hopefully take on a Tough Mudder next year. Got 5 more Spartan Races lined up this year.

My friends are all super into it, they drag me along to do double laps on both days in the same weekend one year, I also went to the 24hr WTM in vegas last year as a put crew for them too. Is great fun, great atmosphere, although I personally prefer ultramarathon myself as I hated stuff like walk the plank or king of the swingers....

PS Bring Baby wipe and those DIY glove with the plastic stuff is super useful for monkey bars :)
