Yeah, get an HI card just in case, but if other hostels are available I would go for them, I've found HI hostels to be very boring places with generally unhelpful staff, and often full of kids. It's not really fun for a solo traveller- check the reviews on hostelworld.com and check out some of the alternatives, you might find some hidden gems.
