Hi all

Well im looking for something new and after a lot of thinking im almost certain I will end up getting a Toyota Yaris T Sport.

Im just looking for advice on things to look out for if anything on cars with mileage around the 20-40k mark and anything eles that should be checked before buying.

Seen a 32k with a asking price of £4500 but im guessing i should aim lowering around the £4200 mark ?

If anyone wants to comment on the car if they have owned or driven one before that would be great to, im going to have to try get a test drive somewhere to make sure its for me.

Thanks

Can't you buy something a bit more manly with £4500?

I guess I could but I do like the shape/styling of the T Sport Yaris, also another reason being its consumption / performance.

Urban 32.5
Extra Urban 49.6
Combined 41.5
0-62mph 8.8 - 9 seconds

Only thing that is off putting for me in the Yaris is the dash, it looks dated and clunky but its not something i could'nt live with.

I would love a previous shape Civic Type R / S but its abit rich for my wallet at moment so will get one when I have the money.

so any suggestions of what you guys think i should get if you think i should'nt get that for that price ?

i want something:

Fastish (0-60 sub 10 second be great :D )
Reliable
Good MPG
Close to £4k as possible
Hold its value well
Cheapish on insurance

I've owned a Yaris T-Sport for nearly 3 years now, done over 30k in it and haven't had a single problem with it. Economy wise I get around 35 to the gallon with normal driving, closer to 30 when ragging it. Performance is nothing special but the handling is very good. I'd recommend changing the standard tyres to 195/45/15, not only are they a lot cheaper per corner, but the extra width makes a lot of difference, there are also more brands available, Goodyear F1's are shockingly good, and less than £50 a corner. The only issue I know of is the damper bushes wearing, although the item is very cheap to replace labour can be expensive. Power tends to start at just over 3k in each gear, pretty dead before then. Also if you like your music then you will want to change the radio, its terrible. Any questions just ask.

However now that the 172 might be in your price range it might be worth looking at that, don't know how the reliability compares though.

Polo GTi? 0-60 in 8.4, you'll get 40mpg on a motorway run.

Your get a really good example for and some change for the money.

Clio172 sounds choice good too. Seat Ibiza Cupra also?

thats basically a bit of everything, so you will either get a jack of all trades type car, or you need to priortise certain things that you need.

the faster you go, the worse the economy will be crudely speaking and will also be more on the insurance.

^ As above.

Reliable
Good MPG

Cheapish on insurance

Choose 3.

My aunt had a similar aged Yaris (non sporty); very reliable. personally I really like them for the brand, reliability, inside and outside look.

i want something

1/ fast
2/ reliable
3/ cheap

answer - choose any 2. no such thing as all 3 unfortunately. :)

Maybe a little pricey for the insurance... but a Clio 172.

I do like the Clio shape but then I dont like the steering wheel or interior on them :(

I do like the look of these and price and performance does seem great but reliability i think is a issuse ? also quality ?

Yep i've kind of limited my self there have'nt I but when I say things like good MPG i mean good for say its performance, You can get some cars which on paper are the same performance wise but there is a gap in MPG wise. I think the things that im looking for kind of put me in the japanese manufacturers section more as they seem to fill each need than other makes.

So what do you guys think about a Honda Civic Type S ?

Cheers all

The rover diesel engines are pretty solid. It's the petrol one's you've gotta look out for. I have a ZR TD and I can't fault it really. I can give it some and still returns decent mpg.
