Hi

I live in a new build house and bought some of these supposed 500Mbps power lines, now I only have 3meg adsl crap so not the end of the world but im wondering why the software it comes with is showing my LAN connection as 18Mbps? its a far cry from the stated 500?

TP-LINK AV500 500 Mbps Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit - Twin Pack

You never get the advertised throughput with these things, it's completely impossible in any real-life setting. That said, 18Mbps is very low, are they plugged directly into the wall socket and not an extension cable or surge protector?

LOL.

They know most places won't sync over that, so hey might as well save money on the interface ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Main issue is powerlines heavily depends on your electrical mains, how it's wired, the quality of the cables, distance and if it needs to go to another circuit. If you're in a new build chances are it could be needing to go to a different circuit that's causing the big sync speed drop.

I used the same kit for a client and saw it syncing at around 115mb at most, but they were not that far from each other and on the same eletrical line (was a temporary measure until we could install some cat cable).

Yea think they are on a different circuit as one is upstairs and the other is in garage.

Right con though lol. Bit like selling a pump that can do up to 500 litres a minute but comes with tiny hoses that have max 100 per minute.

yeah that is really slow mine are working via different circuits i believe (upstairs and down) and i'm getting a connection speed ranging from 235 to 280. I do have a very new circuit breaker board though and i think this uses a common supply for both circuits dont know though could be wrong.

Put them in the bin, use a cat5e cable instead

I agree with the above. It was a bit of a chew at first figuring out how to wire my upstairs PC downstairs to the router, but what a difference it makes! I used to rely on the Netgear 500mbps powerline adapters. They were decent enough, but no comparison compared with a cable.

My latency improved in games by at least 10% so I was happy with that!
