Typically -
- Poor quality mains wiring in your house
- Noise on the mains from other equipment, especially those with motors - washing machines, fridges, microwaves

I did some tests sometime ago in this thread - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18375205

I gave up with using Homeplugs and laid an Ethernet cable from the router to upstairs.

Thanks for the info.
I think i'm gonna have to just that. run cable into the next room, and drill into the wall.
I'm going to need over 20M of Ethernet Cable. would i lose any quality being so long?

Also, could you recommend a good quality cable? or does that not matter so much?

Cheers :)

Ethernet cable is (theoretically) good for 100m, so 20m will be no problem at all.
Just buy Belkin. It might cost more but your only going to do it once.

Just the speed rating really.
cat5 - 100Mbps
cat5e - 1000Mbps/1Gbps
cat6 - 10Gbps

Incidentally I used a flat cable which I DON'T recommend. It seems like a nice idea as it lies flat under carpets etc, but it's a pain when it has to go around a corner.

Oh ok, so cat5 is all i need!

Cheers ;)

That worked out a treat thanks ;)

I got an open box now, which needs internet. i don't want to use the TP-Link AV200.
So would a TP-Link TL-SF1005D 10/100Mbps Switch work ok to use for the pc and open box with no problems? or is it best to run another cable ?

Cheers ;)
