Internet - Virgin 130mb

Hey people i have a question, i purchased these other day because my laptop wireless was disconecting 3times a day and i just recieved them today and paired them but there is no indication they are actually working because my laptop wireless is still pretty slow and download speeds havent increased, i installed the software and its showing Device 2 under devices with 80-100% signal strengh it also has an option for password so i tried to put the password in from the plug and it said it was wrong

So the question is?

Homeplugs of that sort won't improve wireless connection throughput. You need to run a cat 5e/6 cable from the homeplug to the laptop and disable or reorganise the connection priority so the laptop uses the Ethernet port instead of wifi.

hey thanks for the reply, whats the difference between a ethernet and a cat 5e/6 cable also how do you change the priority to use ethernet port

Downstairs is my laptop and my plug connected to each other and upstairs is my router and plug connected to each other but i dont think the plugs are working at the moment because when i paired them it device 2 showed on the monitor software but nothing changed and the internet still cuts off 3+ times a day.

Everybody i have spoke to has said these plugs gave them a solid connection with no dropouts but im not seeing that so im guessing my laptop is still using the wireless instead of the ethernet like tealc said

Ok, the disable the wireless on the laptop, then connect the laptop direct to the router/one of the plus to see if you still get the drop outs.

I have the TP link ones with a set of netgear ones and I have never had any problems with them.

I read somewhere on here that you could change network device priority do just thought I'd mention it. I don't have a situation where I need to do this but if I did I would surely track down the information on how it's done by searching Google.

Normally If you disable the wireless by hitting the wireless on/off button or by using assigned keystroke on your laptop, the laptop will then no longer ignore any Ethernet connections you have avabilable.

Manually setting the interface metric for both adapters should work.

Network adapter -> Properties
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) -> Properties
Advanced…
Disable automatic metric and enter a numeric interface value. Lower value = higher priority.

Personally I just disable wireless when I'm not using it.
