Hi All,

I am trying to set up a Smart DNS on my TP Link router. The instructions I'm following are telling me to enable the DHCP settings (which was on by default) and then enter my Smart DNS server address into Primary DNS section.

All part on the DHCP settings are greyed out so I am unable to change any settings or input any address.

It's a brand new router that I purchased today, so I am unsure if there is any setting(s) that I have turned off by default that prevents me from inputting anything on the DHCP settings page.

I guess your right, sorry for that.

The tutorial I'm following it this :

My settings are :

On my settings, (5) is already enabled but greyed out and I am unable to input any DNS server in (6)

Hope this helps a little more.

I did yeah and it’s working fine as a router.

Another thing I forgot is that I’m using it as secondary router. I have my Sky Q router as my main router then from Ethernet point on my main router (Sky) I have a link to the WAN point of my TP router.

I will check the link also when I’m back st my computer.

So basically what I am trying to do is set up a Roku streaming stick to enable me to watch and download U.S TV apps. I have read that you can not set up a VPN/Smart DNS server on the Roku stick and the only way to do it is to set a VPN directly to the router.

My Sky router doesn't allow what I'm trying to achieve in setting a VPN up on the router so I have purchased a secondary router which allows that, but now I'm having issues changing the DHCP settings on my TP router.

And if i'm truthful, I don't know an alternate way to set up what I trying to achieve as I have basic knowledge about this type of thing, but when it comes to trouble shooting, I have no clue.

You could set the roku stick up to have a static IP and enter the DNS server settings into it that way. Doesn’t solve the router not having the setting but it certainly would get you moving again.

That sounds prefect for what I am trying to achieve. I don’t mind it won’t sort my setting issue, I’d just like to to get the Roku stick doing what I want it to do.

My only issue with what you’ve explained is, I wouldn’t know how to set this up. I have very basic knowledge, but wouldn’t know how to set up a static IP onto the Roku stick

You may need to do a bit of googling to find the process of setting a static IP on the Roku, it's fairly basic stuff, network settings and click manual usually.
You then need to do some basic networking, your Roku will want an IP address, give it one which is not inside your DHCP range. Subnet will probably be 255.255.255.0 and gateway will be your routers IP. DNS you already have if you are using your Smart DNS servers.

Ran into the same problem, go to `Network` -> `LAN` and change your IP address first. I changed it from `192.168.1.1` -> `192.168.0.2`. Once I had restarted the router i was able to change the DHCP settings
