Hi guys,

I'm in need a of a new router as I'm sick of the technicolor router I currently have. I have been thinking to get the TP-link w9880 and it has a lot of good reviews but some bad ones too.

Can anyone recommend it this router? Or am I going to buy garbage?

It's a decent price and I don't need to get overboard as I only have 15Mbps speed. I mostly game and do occasional downloads.

My internet is from the phone line.

From what you want and what you have it seems ideal. I bought a TP-Link TL-WDR4900 v1 from the MM here a couple of years ago and I use that now on my Plusent fibre with a OpenWRT firmware. It works perfectly fine. Around 86 days uptime.

I have always found TP-Link stuff to be relatively cheap and cheerful and whilst they might be missing some of the bells and whistles that some people need they have always been solid enough for my use.

I like TP Link stuff because it has a lot of the bells and whistles that historically items at the price points they operate at didn't. QoS, VLAN's, multiple SSID's, guest wifi, rate limiting via SSID etc.

Aside from their GUI that needs more options and polishing, I really like my TP-Link router. All 3 of my unmanaged switches are TP-Link too and work brilliantly, easily breaking 900 Mb/s transfer speeds.
