ok guys i have a small issue im using a TP-Link wireless card and my internet connection is shocking. my old mans pc downstairs is getting around 38mb download ...in my room im getting around 4 at a push. now on the tp box it says windows 7 vista and xp and the driver wont install either because of the wrong OS. now could this be my problem or is it just because im far away from the router?

If you can connect to the router, then it means the adapter is working. What model is the wireless card? What OS are you using? What model is the router as well and how far is it?

It's normal to see much slower speeds the further you are away from the router, mine dropped from 60mb to a tiny unstable 2mb. Homeplugs sorted this out though, maybe you should consider using these instead.

its a TL-WN881ND the router is downstairs and my rig is in my room there is about 4 walls in the way of me and the router its a bt router the one that comes with infinity not sure other than that what are homeplugs exactly? im a noob....always been a console gamer lol only just built my rig :)

That wireless card is fine. And 4 walls, if they're pretty thick then that can chop a good deal of wireless strength.

These things basically uses the electrical mains to connect your PC to the router. I find this much better than wireless since it's more stable, less latency and with recent models, better speed. The only thing that will affect the sync rate is the quality of the cabling within your home, but in your case it should be much better than what you're seeing with wireless.

And another note... I found a cheaper 500mb kit (TP-Link PA411KIT) on the rainforest ;).

thankyou for your help mate i will look into it .if all else fails or the connection still isnt great ill just have to buy my own line for upstairs lol im not going to spent 2500 on a pc and have crap internet :P

If homeplug doesn't work for you (and it's rare, but it can happen), there are other options. A wireless card with a massive aerial for example. Or popping a wireless repeater or similar somewhere closer to the router. But Homeplug is where I'd start too.
