Hi,

I've got an issue on one of our clients sites and hope you guys can help. The have a cheap load balancer which routes all inbound traffic down WAN1 and all outbound traffic up WAN2 - I'm looking for a way to prove that it is actually sending/receiving traffic the way it should. I can do the downstream test with a simple traceroute but need something that will show the upstream traffic going out of WAN2 - I have thought of simply uploading a file to an FTP server I have access to and checking the IP it comes from however I'm making sure there isn't a more elegant solution :)

Cheers

Can't you check any counters from the device and check volume of inbound and outbound on each interface? What is it you're using?

That's the problem, the device wasn't supplied by my company and the device has no markings on it at all - just three ethernet interfaces, one serial port and one power input - it actually looks like a PCEngines ALIX case. There isn't a webserver on port 80 to configure it, I'll plug in via serial and see if anything pops up :)

Probably the best bet. Need to know what is actually is really before working out how to check. No point in suggesting something if there's no way to do it.
