tracert delay?

Hi all
I have a netgear 632 router and when i do a tracert or ping to any address i get a long delay (maybe 20 seconds) and stars on the first hop. I believe that this is the internal hop from pc to router, so can some one explain why i get this delay?

Sounds like the router is configured to refuse ping requests.

Go to the admin page and switch them on.

sorry i should have said the rest of the hops are ok 15/20 m/s, was just wondering what the initial delay was.

Sounds like what norm says is correct, paste a tracert here if you want us to go through it.
