I'll probably be looking at doing my first track day sometime this summer, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to go down south? I'm based in Dorset, so somewhere in that sort of area would be nice, just wondering if anyone has been to any around this way?

Planning on doing this first though http://www.bikemaverick.co.uk/pdf/performance brochure2010.pdf Should provide me with some good tips I'd imagine :D.

We should do an OcUK Track Day Meet :p.

I've looked at them, but there doesn't seem to be an amateur session, so I think that'd be a bit scary for a first time, unless I'm just miss-reading the website I'm looking at lol.

haha yea the inters group, too many first time track day'rs who think they are heroes on the road, think naaa im too fast for novice so go inters, guaranteed they will be at the back after the warm up or will have binned it or ran off the track within 2 laps after the warm ups :p

Thing on track you have to remember is there is always someone slower and always someone faster than you, regardless of group, the instructors will come past you most of the time looking effortless :p
There are on track the same as on the road idiots who will do dodgy overtakes, but 99% of the time if someone is quicker they will get past you no problem, worry about your own riding not what others are doing behind you.
If you are nervous you can get an instructor to follow you around all day if thats what you want, its what they are there for, and they and the marshals keep an eye out for anyone doing anything stupid and they will get black flagged or thrown off the track for it.

I think you mean asked to depart the venue, rather than thrown off the track (though that may be amusing to watch happen)

One thing I have found with watching folk on track and hearing them is some of the guys that are fast on the road are scared on the track. which is actually quite funny as it knocks them down a peg.

I haven't done a track day yet but would love to. One of the biggest things i have been advised to do is go round and do a spotting lap and then take it up a notch

Ahh really want to get out and do one of these ASAP, but most are weekday based, which is a problem for me, even a late evening one, as I love quite far away from most, and I'm stuck on camp till later, and only have time at weekends really. Need to see if I can get some leave booked!
