Track Days

I've thought about this for a while and spoke about it in a few threads, but now I'm close to taking the plunge

I've got a CB500s (half fairing) and I'm thinking of taking it off the road and using it for track days only. I'd obviously be taking it off the road so no insurance/tax etc, what sort of mods would be worthwhile doing and are there any special requirements? I've seen a few photo's of bikes on track days and mirrors have been removed, headlights taped up etc.

Hey cheers for the replies I hadn't thought of keeping away from tracks like that!

I love how you say "when" I go down, not if What's the score with leathers? I was just thinking of getting some really cheap leathers or possibly second hand?

Are there any tracks you'd recommend close to the Lakes? Three Sisters looks like a good track but there doesn't seem to be any mention of track days for motorbikes on their website?

Well it wouldn't be as much fun if there was no risk of some pain

I was told of the three sisters track a few years ago by a guy who raced classic bikes there (Wigan) and recommended it. From the website it looks like its predominately kart racing/supermoto though http://www.three-sisters.co.uk

As the saying goes.. Its your ass, not mine..

I dropped by my local kart track this morning and what do I find, some motorbikes razzing around!! I didn't stay for too long so not sure what classes were running yet but what I did see appeared to be 50/125cc bikes all mixed up, weird looking things, normal race style bikes and a couple of scooters (one of which was going faster than some bikes!)

This track is about 8 minutes drive from my house so if they run regular meets I can see me getting a cheapo small bike and taking part, cheap, looks like great fun and fairly slow speeds which means less chance of breaking bones and needing time off work (or the p45!).

It all looked great till I read the entry fees:

Round 1 May 1st / 2nd Rowrah, West Cumbria
Round 2 May 3rd Rowrah, West Cumbria
Round 3 July 10th / 11th Whilton Mill, Nr. Daventry
Round 4 July 31st / August 1st Llandow, South Wales
Round 5 September 25th / 26th Rowrah, West Cumbria

Entry Fees:

Option 1:
Round 1 & 2: £350 per bike with a team of up to 3 riders - additional riders £15 each.
Round 3: £150 per bike with a team of up to 3 riders - additional riders £15 each.
Round 4: £150 per bike with a team of up to 3 riders - additional riders £15 each.
Round 5: £150 per bike with a team of up to 3 riders - additional riders £15 each.

Option 2:
If you don’t enter Round 1 & 2 you pay a higher price for the other 3 rounds.
Round 3: £250 per bike with a team of up to 3 riders - additional riders £15 each.
Round 4: £250 per bike with a team of up to 3 riders - additional riders £15 each.
Round 5: £250 per bike with a team of up to 3 riders - additional riders £15 each.
