track mania or project c.a.r.s

i havent played trackmania, but i've been playing project CARS and really like it. as long as you remember that it is prealpha and that 95% of the game is work in progress thenits a great game

Yep, thought that was an odd choice of games to pick between :p

sim wise you've basically got 4 options:
cars ('pre-alpha' not great imo but not bad)
rfactor2 (beta, better than cars, some very nice weather effects)
netkar pro (no real multiplayer frankly, but very good physics)
iracing (very good physics, very good multiplayer, quite expensive if you get hooked)

+ All the games Simbin make.

Race 07/addons is very popular and shows no signs of waning, Race 07 is also a good entry point to sim racing as its cheap, the cars are not too fast (touring cars) and theres no subscription needed.

Simbin games suck, and I question the mental health of anyone who is a fan of them.

OP, get LFS. Still by far the best Racing sim out there.

Quick fun driving game = Trackmania Nations Forever - great fun and freeeeeee!

Serious driving sim with very nice graphics = Project C.A.R.S - Roughly £20 gets you weekly builds and a say through the forums on development!

Both highly recommended!

Have not played Project C.A.R.S, but it does look brilliant. Technically really different games. As far as I'm aware Project C.A.R.S is still needs a lot more work development wise.

Trackmania is brilliant. Lots of fun, and will run on even ancient systems.
