Hi there,

Me and my friends are looking to visit Nurburg in August but before we go, we'd like to gain some track experience.

Any tips on tracks/prices/dates for novices.

Cars involved will be Saxo VTS/Fabia vRS 177bhp/Clio 172.

Donington is a good circuit for beginners, lots of runoff space, lots of open view to see what is coming up, and a wide track that means you shouldn't ever be in the way of quicker cars :)

If we exclude the whole epic engine fail I suffered, the price was £130 for the tracktime itself, two tanks of fuel (£110) (not including getting there/back), set of brake pads, oil change/filter change and a helmet (£65, BS approved).

All in, it was probably a good £350, but then pads are expensive for me, and my fuel was guzzled at around 6MPG average on the track!

If you want a cheap and cheerfull way to get a little track experience consider the Action Days at Castle Combe. £30 for a 15-20 min session. You can usually hire a helmet too if you don't have one.

There is an Action Day on the 25th of this month, the track time sells out very quick though, I bought some over the weekend and they told me it's selling out fast.
