Trackdays, surely its not just me.

I just booked my Calais Ferry tickets for my first Track day of 2016

Heading over the Circuit Des Ecuyers in Champagne for Friday 27th May. Should hopefully be good weather and with two days in Épernay afterwards there will be plenty of laughs!

My Megane 275 Cup-S is currently scheduled for delivery on 30th May though. Bummer :( :( Will rent a Clio Cup race car instead though I think, so not all bad haha

We did a 'Ring trip last year which was great, but Ecuyers is only 2 hours from Calais and it will be good to do something different I reckon!

I just got "into" track days. Rented a BaT caterham R300 SV at Donington and Spa in the last month. Both were great - so great infact that a friend and I have gone in and bought a new track-spec Caterham 420R together. Delivery is August - cannot wait!

Had a great day at Donington on Monday. Was a bit busy in the morning with a few drivers having issues moving over but in the afternoon it was nice and quiet!

Quite a few race cars there including a couple of 458's and a brand new Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

I went to a few trackdays back when I had my classic Impreza, unfortunately the engine gave up at Bedford and that was the end of that car/me going to trackdays. I realised using your daily driver for trackdays is asking for trouble so I kept my Clio 172 after buying a new car (first an Alfa 156 GTA now a mk7 Fiesta ST) and decided the Clio will make a decent track car. Will be stripping it out over the next few weeks and then with some new front pads/braided lines and decent brake fluid it should be track ready. I'm tempted to try castle combe as it's close to me, Oulton Park is my favourite track I've driven so far and Silverstone was disappointing (I think you need a really fast car to enjoy a trackday there).

That's been some of my concern, done half a dozen days in the GT86 and loved it... but it's my only car and although I don't need it daily I'm worried something mechanical could go which I'm not capable of fixing myself and could cost a fair bit to correct. Usually book days where I at least know a few people so I'm not stranded if it does go wrong.

That's part of the reason I bought my M3, so I wasn't using my daily on track…and it's cheaper to run and fix if anything did go wrong.

Has anyone been to Donington? What sort of lap times were you getting on the National circuit? Curious to see if I'm miles off the pace!
