Tracker install with subscription

My current insurance company are insisting I get a tracker fitted with an active subscription to a car I’m looking at buying. I’ll have two weeks from the date of purchase to get it installed and supply them with evidence.

I know nothing about them, the brands, prices or subscription costs. Any recommendations so I can look at prices and work out if it’s worth staying with them or looking to change provider.

Get a new insurance company

I don’t like trackers as I take the view if the car is nicked then I don’t really want it back. Personal thing, some like the idea of being able to find the car and the crims but I think if they are serious crims the tracker won’t help. My insurer didn’t insist on one.

I'm just weighing up my options of getting one fitted and staying with the current company versus moving mid term.

No one. Just funny you only just realised a tracker is £500 and didn’t even bother Googling. I’m sure that post took longer to type than ‘cost of tracker’

Worst ‘I’m gonna buy a M3 ‘ thread ever ;)
It’s not as simple as just a case of £500 or whatever for an install, it’s the ongoing premiums over the years and if they’re cheaper overall versus none tracker then I might look at that.

Nowhere in my first post did I mention what car I’m getting, I was purely interested in the range of options and costs for trackers and feedback. Someone asked me what car so I replied.

Go back to curtain twitching or whatever other annoying habits you have.

Ironic you are now telling me how much they cost
I said £500 or whatever, there are different options with different costs so I don't know.

You've managed to post some semi useful information, which was the entire reason I created this thread - for information about trackers.

Not for any other reason which you seem to think.

I wonder what a forum would be like if no one ever asks questions about things they don't fully know about or understand.

My last insurance company asked if I had a tracker fitted to my E43 when I had it, so I said no and they said it was required under the policy. I told them Mercedes have an app which tells me where the car is and that was good enough for them as they dont specify what sort of tracker is required. I cant recall if the BMW app can locate your car or not?
The app can but only when the car is stationary IIRC. I'm with BMW Insurance and they told me it has to be a Thatcham approved tracker.

Ah ok, in that case then its probably worth doing as the guys above said, change insurance company as the costs would out weight any change in insurance co. and you never know, you might even get a cheaper policy

That's the conclusion I'm coming to.

They have insisted you get one mid term?

BMW Insurance insist on a tracker on any M cars or cars above £75K. My current car is neither.

BMW have just told me that they fitted one when the car was new, I’ve asked some questions but it may work out in my favour.

All it says on the website is:

Is the car fitted with a tracker?
Any vehicle valued in excess of £75,000 or any M Series vehicle must be fitted with a Thatcham approved tracking device with an active subscription. If you have arranged for installation of a Thatcham approved tracking device with an active subscription within 14 days of the start of this policy, or you already have this in place, you can answer yes. Please note, failure to comply with this requirement may result in all or part of a claim not being paid. You may be required to provide us with a copy of your certificate of installation.

The car currently has a cat 7 tracker installed.
