Hi,

Just been playing about with quotes for a car I'm thinking about buying of AutoTrader that has a TRACKER fitted.

When in AT i say it just has an immobiliser (rather than immobiliser and tracker) the quote works out ~£40 less. Sounds strange to me??

Anyone else found this?

What are peoples general opinion on TRACKER's?

Cheers,

ICE

Depends on the car, mate had to have one fitted on his Evo 8, he also has that anti-hijack system and two alarms, his premium came down a couple of 100 a year.

Unless its an irreplaceable car, a one-off, or just uber-rare, I personally don't like the idea of a tracker.

Personally I don't want my "run-of-the-mill" car back after it has been stolen. God knows who or what they have crashed into, how much they have abused it, what state its in or whatever else, also it would be marked as "stolen recovered" lowering its value.

TBH I don't want that kind of car back, i'd rather have the cash/a replacement.

Would it?

I thought that only happened if the insurance company paid out on the car, and it was subsequently found afterwards...

Agree totally. If its a mainstream car that can be replaced then I wouldnt want to see it again, I would rather have the insurance pay out and be able to start over.

A friend of mine had a laguna stolen and then recovered, the interior was full of ash and cigarette burns, wheels kerbed and tyres wrecked which suggests they gave it some abuse. They still have the car now and its still in the same condition, I couldnt do that.

I was playing with the elephant quote system the other night. I found it quite amusing that the price only increased by £1.05p when I added the "fire and theft" part to a 3rd party only quote. :D

I didn't bother trying to see how much the premium would come down if I fitted an immobiliser :p
