Tracker recommendations?

Never owned a 'premium brand' car before and never had much need for a tracker so I've no idea where to start.

Any recommendations? Is it better to get one fitted by Audi?

I've been looking around and saw these real time GPS boxes which use Google maps etc...Just a bit gimmicky or are they actually useful?

Cheers :)

If it's a requirement of the insurance company you will need to get a unit from Tracker fitted, as this is the kit the police use to recover stolen vehicles. For example my boss recently got an XK-RS (still waiting for a drive!) and the insurance company required a tracker to be fitted.

If it's for your own peace of mind then there are probably loads of options around.

Unless it's an R8 V10 then this is probably massive overkill. If it gets nicked you wont want it returned anyway.

A tracker wont stop your car being nicked so there is no real peace of mind there.

Whats the car?

I had no choice to to have a tracker and if its anything like my previous careful and courteous thieves, I'd want it back.

I hear what you're saying but I'm still interested in speccing/pricing one up.

Wanting it back or not depends entirely on the condition.

Unless you have to have one for insurance purposes, rare these days, then I don't see a lot of point really as anyone who really wants a car will deal with a tracker in seconds.

Not your choice. If its recovered and its economically repairable, you'll get it back whether you want it back or not!

Why do you keep dodging the 'what is it' question? :p

It was you who said I wouldn't want it returned anyway and I'm not dodging, it was only asked once. :p I mentioned in the Audi thread, it's an A3, 2.0 TFSI S-line.

Hardly an R8 V10 but regardless, whether it's viable or not, I'm still interested, having had no experiencing or need for looking into trackers before. :)

What actual peace of mind will it give you? Personally wouldn't be too keen on getting a nicked motor back, and fitting a tracking system at you own expense to help your insurance company get it back wouldn't be something I'd want to do.

Insurance companies generally only require them fitted in expensive cars because it's about them recovering THEIR money, not your car.

For some reason there is a tracker fitted to my car. I think it was £120 a year for the service. I spoke to my insurance company and they offered me no reduction in my premiums for it at all. Not a surprise really on a 10 year old dag dag.

I've got a tracker in my Impreza but it wasn't going to make any difference to the premium so i never activated it. Also i really REALLY wouldn't want the car back if it was stolen, the remote detonator sounds like a good idea actaully...
