I have ArmA 2 and FSX. The TrackIR looks like the must have peripheral. It's not cheap, and not many stockists in the UK.

Any other alternatives (besides having another 2 hands grafted on)? Have seen reviews of the OCZ NIA but it looks like it needs work and the wired connection would put me off anyway.

Does OcUK have any plans to stock the TrackIR?

Here's a really good video of some guy showing it off:

It looks really nice, but I don't play Arma enough to warrant the high cost.

I've played OFP, ArmA and ArmA2. Guess I'm addicted. The main problem with all of these games is all the keyboard commands used. Can get very complicated/complex. Hoping the to use the TrackIR to take some stress of my fingers.

Seen a few vids. Looks good.

Having to turn your head and yet keep your eyes on the screen seems really weird.

I like the dodge and zoom functions, but the whole head-turning thing looks like it would give you a headache. Or eyestrain.

I couldn't get used to mine as it made me feel sick and dizzy so i sold it on the mm, some really love it mind you.

Not heard of any alternatives.

Once you get used to it you will hate games that don't have it. You don't really turn your head all that much TBH, eg you can set it so 10deg head turn, is 90deg in game. The sensitivity can be adjusted to your liking.

OP look at getting a TIR4 second hand or off the bay. Just as good as the TIR5 IMHO.

Also google freetrack, the freeware alternative. Just remember you get what you pay for. Freetrack doesn't support as many games.

Hi Sleepery

Was wondering about the head turning bit. Wonder if you can calibrate the TrackIR to suit you're needs. For example, can you set it up so that slight left head turn would result in a 90 degree look to the left? (hope I'm making sense)

If you could, then that would be great. It would save you looking out the corner of you're eye.

Ignore this post. You've answer the question Nate. Thanks.

They arn't too bad price wise, £139.95+£4 delivery for a Track IR5 + the headset clip and also the cap clip.

As other peeps have mentioned, there is freetrack but I don't believe it's supported in ArmA2 although this may have changed but I think the developers behind Track IR, kinda put their foot down on no others being supported.

And yeah, as has been said you can adjust the turning ability irl to your ingame counterpart as many people seem to think you have to look away from the screen for it to work - not sure what thye are thinking as it's kinda pointless otherwise :D

Fantastic piece of kit you wont regret it, been using mine for a few years now and it definetly gives you an edge against players who arnt using one. Also the latest software for the TIR5 works with the 4 as well, it is much better and easier to configure. From what ive read on other forums the 4 is as good as the 5 so its upto you.

I cant get used to using track ir as a soldier in arma2, as soon as I need to shoot people I get disorientated with my surroundings and my gun sight.

Track ir is good for flight sims & driving games etc but total weird as a soldier in arma.

I'm 50/50 still on mine, not sure if I will keep it much longer!

It takes a while for using TIR in ARMA2 to become natural. I find it takes awhile to stop turning my head when playing TF2 now :)

TooManyPCs TIR 4 + 5 can be gotten here RC Simulations Their website is a bit basic but they are the most respected Simulation hardware/software suppliers in the UK

I got my TrackIR 5 and pro clip from PC Simulations. They were brilliant .

By the way, ignore anyone whos says the TrackIR's are weird, hard to get used to, rubbish etc etc are talking ****e. Took me 20 mins of playing Arma2 and i was hooked! It truely does add a hell of a lot to lots of games. I've had m8's around trying it out and they are all getting one, they all totally loved it. You will too.

Just the other day i tried it with GTR2 and the G25 wheel & pedals..
Simply brilliant!

Heya mate in the trackir mapping options theres an option to bind a key for 'pausing' trackir - When you pause, it reverts back to the gunsight view. Bind this to an easily accessible key and then you can use the trackir only when its useful, like running across open ground and pause it when you want to switch back to fps view - this removes a lot of the disorientation you experience.

Or possibly they actually didn't find it as easy to get used to as you did... Just because you didn't have any issues does not mean nobody else did.

I started using mine in flight sims ( IL2 and Lomac) but i personally didnt find using it in Arma 1 (or Arma 2) was that difficult but you do need to set it up to your own preference or it can seem a bit wierd i suppose. I got mine from rc simulations back in 2005 and just recently got a track clip pro from them which is much better than the track clip (no more wearing baseball caps while using it).

got my trackIR 5 and clip pro from RC sims last month for Arma2 and other sims. Love it to bits, esp when flying. Hate games without it now, thats the only problem :)

But like others have said, tir4 is just as good if on a budget.

Wasn't just me though, several friends of mine have tried it and they all say the same. Games just are not the same again without the TrackIR. For instance i loaded up Arma2 accidentally without running the TrackIR sotware and i felt like a blinkered horse on a railway line! It was just bad lol
