Cutting straight to the chase here:)

In my honest opinion the recent versions of Opentrack software combined with PS3eye cam and an LED clip from ebay (like DelanClip or similar) are very precise and stable, easily comparable to TrackIR. I used to own TrackIR4 so speak from experience :)

Few years ago the only decent alternative to TRackIR was the flaky Freetrack which (while prone to crashing) was ok-ish, but still quite jittery/shaky and lacking overall precision. The current free Opentrack soft is very good indeed + only takes 5 minutes to setup for the first time. With setup done, it will subsequently boot in seconds and is supported by all (?) the games that support TrackIR: DCS World, Arma3, IL2:Stalingrad, Assetto Corsa, etc.

Here is a vid with Opentrack in action, pay attention to smooth, stable and jitter free movement.

e.g.@4:00 and @4:38
