Get it if you can. Get the Trackclip Pro too if you use a headset as its so much better

I use it on FSX, Wings of Prey, Arma 2, Test Drive Unlimited and it works like a charm on them all!

It's a bit weird at first and you feel stupid, but after a while you get used to it and when playing games without you feel very enclosed.

I highly recommend

EDIT: Sorry for my poor grammar, at work so having to type quickly

Isn't there software that does the same with a webcam?

There is a chance that software could be a bit crap, but still, I'm just letting you know.

there is but its a bit hit and miss. although it would save you the £100 odd for trackir

plus wont be long before the Kinect hacks enable Kinect to be used on PC for tracking lol :P

A flight sim with out Trackir is half a flight sim i was in denial for a long time until i had a go on a friends, the youtube vids do not do it justice.

I'm using a Playstation Eye (eyetoy for PS3) and Freetrack. If you go on Freetrack, they have forums and guides on how to make a LED Cap for tracking. I've got mine working quite well.

Webcam works at 30fps with the software (Its capable of 60fps but no option) Those fps are interpolated for smooth motion, when you turn your head its very responsive, and lots of customization. I prefer 1:1 tracking, feels most realistic, don't care too much if I can't see over my shoulder =p

But I'm a lazy bugger, I only use it every couple of months, cant be bothered setting it up even though it takes only a few min.

- Oh and, unless you hack your webcam a bit, (floppy drive film to block out optical light, or removing the IR filter) you'll need to keep your room moderately dark. and you might look like the Splinter Cell guy with 3 LED's on your head.

After good quality HOTAS & rudder pedals it's most important accessory for flight sims.

There are other options out there, but none of them are as good as TrackIR itself. If money is a concern pick up a TrackIR 4 (with the track clip pro) second hand, there are plenty about as people are always upgrading to TrackIR 5.
