Okay so I have freetrack and some IR LED's. It works perfectly as far as I can tell.
I am wondering what the benefits of TrackIR would be for the future when I actually have some money. I am currently using a wiimote as my camera, just taped to the top of my monitor, and atm buying tape for the next few years certainly seems cheaper than forking out for the trackIR kit.
Also anyone know how well the hat mounted reflectors work with TrackIR? When setting this up loads of time went into making and testing an IR light source and different shaped reflectors using that grey material from high visibility jackets, long story short it turned out to be rubbish using the same shape as retail TrackIR. It was better using a spherical shape but not great because of creases in the material, which could be overcome by using some IR reflective paint, however never tried this.
