Trackmaina - confusing what to buy

Hi

Played the demo a long time ago, loved it, but now Im hearing a lot about this game on here, so i thought about buying it, but there are loads of different ones, and according to the official website "unlimited" version of TM United Forever is £20, another website says its out in May, is it online only?

I assume I want the nations forever one when it comes out?
 
You can also download it through Steam and have it all tidy in your Steam folder if you can be bothered to find it, but its just the same downloading it from there then adding the exe to your Steam game list.
 
Buy "Trackmania United" for £5, available from at least two popular online retailers for this price, then patch it up to "Forever" level here:

The free version is ok (TMNF), but doesn't come close to the full game. I get bored quickly of the Stadium tracks, at least if you own the whole game you can sample the other versions of Trackmania. Do it, spend a fiver!
 
Is Trackmania United the same as TMNF but "outside" the stadium then ?

I have to admit, i dont think the devs have done themselves any favours with the complexity of their release structure at all, loads of mates want to buy it but haven't a clue what to buy

Its pretty easy.

Trackmania - Full retail product.
Trackmania Nations - Free game based on the same engine as Trackmania

Trackmania United - Updated Full retail game of the previous Trackmania Games

Trackmania United Forever - A full retail product. An update on the game engine with more cars, maps and better online/P2P/Matchmaking capabilities. THERE IS A FREE UPDATE TO UPDATE TRACKMANIA UNITED TO TRACKMANIA UNITED FOREVER SO THOSE WHO ALLREADY OWN UNITED DO NOT HAVE TO PAY AGAIN WHICH IS NICE.

Trackmania United Forever is for those who dont own Trackmania United.

Trackmania Nations Forever is the Equivelant of Trackmania Nations. A free version of the United Forever engine with limited maps and online capabilities compared to the full version.

If I'm deadly honest, i would say that's made it worse :(

could you convert them in to TM1, TM2, TM3 for me so I can see them chronologically (I'm not TTP by the way, its genuinely confused me, and i'm the most intelligent person I know :p )
 
Dont see whats quite so hard to understand here:confused:.

TM Nations Forever is the free (limited) one.

TM United Forever is the full game.


All they have done is allow people who already own United to get the extra content of the newer "Forever" version. I think its great of them, couldn't see EA doing anything like that for their customers.
 
OK, you have the free version called Trackmania Nations Forever containing 1 environment, stadium

You then have Trackmania United, it costs £5 from any places that sell GAMEs. It contains 7 environments: stadium, rally, snow, american, speed, bay and coast

Trackmania United Forever is a free expansion pack for Trackmania United. It adds lots of new blocks and tracks. Those that have United can upgrade to Forever for free.

The new retail version out the end of may is Trackmania United Forever, that way you don't have to download the 900mb free expansion pack as it is already included. If you don't want to download that large file then get that version. You also get a free pair of 3D glasses with the retail version of United Forever (as it now has aa 3D mode)

so is Trackmania Nations Forever a small sample of Trackmania United (forever) ?

and if so, if you buy it for £5 and patch it free to TMUF can you join TMNF servers with custom cars from TMUF or is that a different baby altogether ?

so wtf didnt they just call Trackmania Nations Forever, Trackmania United Stadiums ? and save my brain from hurting

Been playing all morning (free version)

going for lunch now then back to it

hook me up name as "shiwarrior" for a game anyone? loving it!

gonna buy it for £5 and then upgrade for free, otherwise its £30 with it included!
 
TM1 - TrackMania Original (TMO)
TM2 - TrackMania Sunrise (TMS)

TMN - TrackMania Nations (A free 'spin off' of TMO and TMS)

TM3 - TrackMania United (TMO + TMS + TMN in one game)
TM3+ - TrackMania United Forever (TMU with 'update patch')

TMN+ - TrackMania Nations Forever (TMN with 'update patch')

TMN+ is free, TMU is £5 and then free update, or TMUF is £20 (which makes no sence)

Think of it this way:

TrackMania (TMO TMS and TMU) are CSI, and TMN is CSI: Miami...

They are seperate games. the only thing is that servers running purely stadium tracks can be used by both TMNF and TMUF players...

Understand?

Basically, Download TM NAtions Forever, love it, and then buy TM United for £5 and update to Forever and get the full game...
