Trad2 - VRAM Problems or Not?

I have read several forums and reviews on this subject and I am still none the wiser. I have a 4870CF setup and I want to equip both with Trad2's, I have check I have enough room (60mm from board to board) but I have heard people having problems with ridiculous temps on there VRAM chips. It's gonna cost near £100 to equip both cards and I want to make sure it will work properly.

Has anyone done this on 4870's? Anyone using it in crossfire? Anoyone know if this is a user problem or a product problem?

I thought the tRad2 was one of the better products.... I'm sure there is a large thread on it. If you do a search it should find it. Can't remember if the chap fitted it to just one card or a CF setup.

I found the thread you were talking about before I posted but he only fitted it to one card and it was an nVida card. Soemoen mentioned the vRAM temps but no one answered him

I wouldnt think GDDR5 even needed much cooling at all...don't think vram temps will be an issue on a 4870

Yes, thankyou, but as I have already said I have read through the whole thing and no one mentions testing vram temps on the 4870. The OP uses a 9800GTX, and only one person mentions the vram temps and no one answers.

So, can anyone who has bought a trad and used it on a 4870 confirm or deny problems with the vram?

Yes there is a problem, the heatsinks supplied with the Trad2 will not stick to the VRAM chips (nor will any others for that matter) and therefore they can reach around 110C under load. There are a few ways round this though, which are listed in the last few pages of the aforementioned thread.
