Hey folks,

I have recently got a bit bored of my 360 and can't find any other games that look like they can keep me interested. I am currently playing through forza 2 but have got bored of that and can't being myself to really start anything else. I think the problem is I don't really have the time any more to sit in front of the xbox for ages playing through games and it's not really suited to quick ten to fifteen minute blasts. I was thinking of going in completely the opposite direction from the 360 and getting the DS. I ahven't had a ninendo since the snes so I quite fancy getting into mario kart again, and also fun games like mario etc.

What I want to know is are the DS games actually any good? Do they have much reply or pick and play value or do they get tired quickly?

Also, can you recommend any games that I should get for it? I've only had a quick browse round the shops today but there might be older ones I have missed.

With the Ds being able to connect wi-fi is it possible to connect to the net in anyway to download demos etc?

Thanks

Matt

Sorry if this seems slightly OT as I don't know anything about the DS, but I really think now is a bad time to get rid of a 360. There are so many good games on the horizon and you will be missing out on these.

You can get a DS second hand for pretty cheap, probably the cost of 2 new 360 games. Keep your 360 to wait for the titles that are coming in the next 2-6 months and have the DS for a stop gap and gaming on the go if you really feel you want one.

There is no way I would sell my 360 for a DS, i picked up a DS recently, as I do a fair bit of travelling by train and im pretty bored of it already. For the first week it was fun, mario & brain training in particular. I have bought a couple of others since but I just cant be bothered playing any of them.

Its sat unused for over a month now :(

Trade it with the OP and sell the 360 for profit :p

Hmm, it's not so much the games etc. It's the not having loads of time to sit infront of the xbox to play it. The games coming up for the xbox don't really grab me (except maybe halo 3), and seem to need a few hours at in front of the tv to get anything out of it. The DS is just something different. I'm not the biggest gamer in the world so something fun and quick is starting to appeal to me. Is there anything worthwhile about the DS? I am thinking I'd rather get a DS for a bit of casual gaming than just sell the 360 and have nothing.

Cheers

Matt

Last month I was tiring of the spring game drought on the 360 and wanted something more casual so I bought a DS Lite.

Whilst it is great the novelty value soon wore off and I'm back playing more and more 360 again. (Darkness and Call of Juarez with Two Worlds coming next week).

The one game I do find myself playing in bed every morning; and picking up every time I get a few spare minutes is "Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords". You can get it for £15 and Games(tm) aren't wrong in giving it 9/10 and naming it "THE" must have game for the DS.

Hotel Dusk kept me occupied for 6+ hours but I've kind of got bored of it and Animal Crossing was fun till I realised what it was.

I'd say get a DS Lite but hold on to your 360. It's not imo, an either / or situation.

DSL is a fantastic toy to have especially when you're on the go, you can rack nearly 12-14 hours of battery life from it in darkest setting mode, which itself is still pretty bright, i play on it all the time.

However going from a 360 to something completely different, are you sure you can handle it? since the ds has no memorable hardcore fps or racing games on it. Metroid is a pretty good shooter though. Personally for the DS, stuff that has geat replayability is mario kart, and pokemon? if you like that sort of thing, since you can wifi battle people. FF3 will keep you occupied for hours but is pretty linear. I did however really like advanced wars, now that is a really good game to get into if you like strategy turn based games. For touch screen heavy games you ant trauma centre, cooking mama and elite beat agents (possibly jp version).

New mario also cool aswell as pheonix wright series which is very popular now. I know most of these games sound pretty kiddy, but the gameplay really is different and refreshing.

Gah, I'd wait at least 6 months if I were you - have Halo 3, GTA IV, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Fable 2 etc...

Why not trade just some old 360 games for a DS and wait for the new 360 games to come out.

Its not about all the great games that are coming out! The op clearly doesn't have the time to sit playing, and is looking for light entertainment.

Go with the DS, it's cheap and playable and will keep you entertained for short periods of time.

Actually he says he's bored of the games he has, sounds to me like if he did get into a game he would happily spend more than 15 minutes playing it, so it is about upcoming games. Everyone gets bored of gaming every now and then, especially when there's few good releases. Before Forza 2 came out I didn't use my 360 for 3 months.

If you cant sit down for more than 15 minutes or something like that, then gaming isnt for you.
What utter *****. The DS is proves that you can.

also remember DS online wifi play is pants.

keep the 360 and maybe get a ds or even GBA on the cheap if you want some fun.
There is nothing wrong with DS Wi-Fi play. It is solid, simple and works very well. It's a tad rubbish if you want to play with a specific person, though not hard to set up once you get the FCs sorted. Random matchup play is about as easy as online play ever gets.

Do a search for recommended DS games. There are loads! Plenty of threads about it on this board.

To OP:

You sound a bit like I was a few weeks ago, bored of the whole gaming thing. My 360 was underused, until I got Forza. Then it was used for a few days, then I was bored again. Like you, there was nothing that appealed to me and it felt like I just didn't have the time for my 360.

I traded my 360 for a Wii, and I havn't looked back. I've not had as much fun with a console in years, since my N64 I reckon. I know you're after a hand held, but have you considered a Wii?
