My nephew, who has a full time job, just got offered a bit of extra money from his girlfriend's sister's ex who runs a company doing advanced traffic research. I asked him if he can get me on it as well and he has.

Basically, I'm driving to Leicester tomorrow night, being put up in a premiere inn, meeting my nephew and some others doing the same, and on Tuesday we have to each drive short back and forth journeys of routes they give us for 5 hours and then another 5 hours in the afternoon. Something like 4 return trips per hour about 10 to 15 minutes per trip. You're not allowed to overtake and of course must stick to the speed limits.

They pay for everything, and we each get £140 for the days work. I've been offered the Wednesday as well if I want it. They're fitting a GPS camera in our cars to record the journeys. If it's not ridiculously tedious it could turn out to be a nice little earner. I don't know how regular they do this but it's come at a good time for me as I wanted some extra money. I just hope I'm allowed to pause the camera if I need a toilet break. As my 307 is very old I took the precaution of rejoining the RAC, just in case!

Anyone done this before?

If you think £140 for 10 hours of tedium is a "nice little earner" then I guess it's OK. I'd rather do 10 hours of overtime and get 3x that.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the ability to earn 42 quid an hour, but nice of you to rain on his parade whilst flashing your wad :p

I assume they pay for the fuel on top of the £140? :p
Oh yeah I believe so. They should also cover my London to Leicester to London journey. Otherwise the whole thing becomes pointless financially.

I don't blame you tbh. My bills are not that heavy anymore though. I earn 3x that teaching drums to students, I earn on my gigs and I'm now mortgage free on my small flat that I own in London. I was thinking of selling it, buying a 3 bed house in Staffordshire and putting the rest, about £100,000 or so in the bank. But I'll probably stay put for a while. :) I hope you're not mortgaged to the hilt are you?

Maybe you could do some overtime to pay back all the nice people of these forums who paid for your new engine when you weren't so well off?

I’d be up for that, especially if it was more local to me.

It’ll never elevate me to the heady financial heights of some of my forum colleagues, but every little helps :p

Oh wow. Linky to that please?

+1

This could get interesting.

OP go for it mate, never heard of this myself but if you don't mind doing it then it's easy money. I'd take a day off work to do it too, get paid for my job and this at the same time, I might even earn more than paradigm

Hmm, I just checked and on insurance renewal last september I had changed from business use to social & domestic & commuting (fixed place of work). Does that make this job a no go for me?
