I much prefer taking a train but i don't mind driving but the unpredictability of the roads means you can never really get from A to B is quickly as you'd like or once could. People regularly ask me how I put up with travelling to the City each day by train. Well it only takes 35 minutes and 15 minutes home to station. So less than 1 hour door to door. There aren't too many people I know that commute in car for less than 45 minutes. The beauty is that I can read a book, magazine and even browse the net. The down side is of course the cost .. but then when I look at my annual train fare and compare that with how much I'd spend on petrol/maintenance cost doing the same trip.. it still works out a lot cheaper.
One off long distance journeys though are expensive when not booked in advance.. I just prefer sitting back and relaxing.. Car driving stresses me out too much..
