Probs best to go on the websites of the train companies to see their undetailed maps of where the lines are. Then find the station on multimap (OS map) and try tracking the line from there.
I forget the name, but there is a series of books that was out of print for a while, but was recently (within the last 10 years) updated and republished. Not sure if it shows all disused lines. Try Ian Allen bookshops for them.
