Well this might not be a big deal for a lot of you but for some this may of been something they was looking forward to, i know i was kinda looking forward to it.

I had no idea it was canceled until i did a quick search on gamespot to see if there was any news on the sim and i found this

"As you know, every business segment within Microsoft is responsible for continually evaluating its strategy and investments in all areas of the business to achieve operational efficiencies. At Microsoft Game Studios (MGS), we must continually evaluate our portfolio strategy and investments to ensure we are achieving our most important objectives of creating successful, platform-driving titles for Windows gamers. In addition, Microsoft Games Studios must streamline game development operations to be more efficient and critically examine all projects in development to position the business for long-term success and profitability."

"Microsoft Game Studios has canceled the Windows-based game Train Simulator 2.0. The decision to cancel Train Simulator 2.0 was made some time ago and was based on a long, hard, and difficult look at our business objectives and product offerings. We remain focused on the simulations category with successful, platform-driving franchises, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator."

MS couldn't make a decent sim if they tried so it's no great loss.

I can't be arsed providing any evidence to the contrary, so I shall just reply to a ridicilous statement with an equally short reply - What a load of crap.

and I will back you up and say - What a load of bullcrap.

They only made the worlds most successful selling sim ever

Never really got into FS myself. Prefer the combat sims. Never really was into trains either, even as a kid. However I'm curious about the train sims. Mainly because my toddler son's train mad, so I'm being reading, watching Thomas Tank engine and helping him building and play with his trains. I also recently caught a TV program on them moving a Union Pacific Big Boy locomotive and that is one coool engine. http://www.steamlocomotive.com/bigboy/ So I was checking out the games/sims on the web. There seems to be two main ones. Trainz and MS Trains. I downloaded a demo of Trainz, haven't tried it yet.

But what is the attraction of this kinda sim?

The simulators MS make dont have much if any compettion so you can't really go saying that when there is nothing better than them.

I might try a train sim just for something different.

But surely the controls are just go and stop. What else do you do. Do you see people get on and stuff? And can you charge them ridiculous prices for a mini can of coke?

Its a lot more complicated than you think really,Steam Trains being the more fiddly.

You can pick up and drop of things from your train change points if you want to do free roaming, you can also do the timeable things aswell.

I did'nt really play it to much but it made for a change from the norm as you said :D

the best train sim avaiable at present is called TRAINZ, it looks a damn site better than microsoft train sim as well and its got the intercity 125!! :D although the horn doesnt sound right :( give it a go :)
