Well, I can imagine absolutely no-one else interested in this news, but the new version of Train Simulator is released today. All owners of TS2013/12 will be upgraded to TS2014 for free, and in addition, RailSimulator.com (the developers) have given all current owners a bunch of 20/25% off Steam coupons for various DLC.

Even if there's nothing too notable in this release (it has better draw distance LOD, and increased integration/user friendliness of the developer tools), Sean Bean did the voice over for the new trailer. He doesn't die in it either! Instead he just waxes lyrical about trains and rail journeys in that husky strong Yorkshire voice of his.

What a strange game.

I've just given it a try on the Isle of Wight - Sandown but I keep crashing into a steam train head on no matter what I do. It's on the same track and there's nowhere else for me to go.

Having lots of crashes (game variety) as well. The tutorial won't even load and my previous game has just crashed.

I'm wondering if the update has screwed over scenarios; not tried it myself so I wouldn't know, will give it a try tonight though.

OK. I haven't found any problems so far due to the upgrade. I have been playing this since it came out as railworks years ago and this is the first upgrade they got right first time. If you can get into it it's a great simulator and you will end up buying loads of DLC from steam and other places. I have 32 routes and over a hundred loco's now as well as scenario packs and sound packs. I can highly recommend Armstong Powerhouse's sound packs. The HST Valenta soundpack is awesome. Fire up Great Western mainline (London to Oxford) and a HST scenario with that soundpack and just sit there and grin as you give it full pelt. Damn that thing screams!! :D

Likewise, if you're into steam, Digital Traction do some fantastic locos.

Do DLC locos appear on other lines and scenarios other than the ones that come in it's DLC pack?

If they're set up with quick drive, you can 'configure' a drive of your own using that loco yes. However, these are always just a simple X to Y drive.

You could dive into the scenario editor and make your own scenarios on whatever routes you have in your posession however, and this would give you a hell of a lot more say in what the schedule is like and so on.

I actually bought this game as Im into Flight Sim (FSX) and thought why not try sims for other transport modes. I got Eurotruck Sim (brilliant) and Train Sim.

Train Sim can learn a thing or two from Eurotruck when it comes to scenery lol. But its okay.

I only bought train sim for the American and Canadian rail systems as I have zero interest in the UK side of things. Gotta love em Union Pacific heavy haulers!!

Thanks for the HU on the update BTW OP :D

Some of the earlier routes tend to be sparse on scenery, but depending on who made the routes for RSC, some of them are visaully stunning. Westen Lines of Scotland is a newish route and is a favourite of mine for pure detail alone (and the '60s atmosphere!)
