Train Simulator

You have to be selective with the DLC and wait for the Steam sales.

For UK routes, the best are those by Keith Ross - WCML North and WCML South, the Class 86 and Class 87 will have you pondering what sadist came up with the tap changer for controlling power on these locos. Woodhead also worth a look as is Port Road, if you're into steam era stuff.

How well does it run these days? I've not tried it for a few years - I think they changed it over to .NET or something and since then it wouldn't work (on my old laptop).

You need a fairly potent PC to run it with a decent GPU, i.e. not Intel graphics and 8Gb of RAM recommended. DTG's programmers are not always up there with the best and the code can be a bit inefficient.

Is Train simulator on par with Train Sim World for how it runs? I remember in the early days of TSW there were issues getting above 30fps on even the most potent of rigs. Have most of these issues been ironed out now?

I got a humble bundle that included a selection of DLC for about £10. In the end I just had a mess about with the south WCML (well, its the only way I'm ever going to "drive" a pendolino), and went across the Forth bridge on the route from Edinburgh.
