Train tickets, can anyone help?

No, get a ticket to Totnes as almost everything XC to Plymouth also calls there.
 
On a side note, I just got a return ticket from Leamington Spa to London Marylebone for £12 next weekend which I feel is rather bargaintastic.

Doesn't help the OP in any way, but I thought it was worth a mention :).

Maybe the other thread had more information but I made the assumtion that he was wanting cheapest around the middle of Feb so was fine with booking in advance.

Flicking through more days it's odd, some days almost all fares are £17, some days they are £40+... No correlation either. Guess there are big events or something.
 
You need to go to the train station and talk to one of the ticket sellers. My gf and I are going to london in april, we tried to book them online but the tickets were over £100 each return. We went into the station and the guy got the tickets down to £60 each return from Penzance to Paddington, and that's during easter week.

Edit: Just remembered that on the day we travel back, if we wanted a train after 12pm the price went up by £100 for some reason, if you are flexible about the times you travel you might get them cheaper.

They won't be able to offer anything he can't get online.

Good advance fares from London to Penzance are easy to come by and always available. Cross Country is another story. I can often get from Plymouth to London in first class for less than it costs to get to the girlfriends near Birmingham in standard...
