Hi everyone,

Is it cheaper to buy a train ticket online the night before or the same as buying it at the station on the day? Need to go into London tomorrow and would like to use the station that's right next to my house. Problem is the Abellio ticket booking website doesn't list that station when I come to select the station for collecting the tickets from. Strange thing is that the station is listed as having a self-service ticket machine.

If it will cost me the same just buying it at the station tomorrow, I won't bother buying it online. Would appreciate some help here!

Last time I've prebooked a ticket I've been able to collect it from any machine that prints the standard orange tickets, the wording has been along the lines of "you can collect from any self-service ticket machine". I have definitely had to select a station before though, but been able to pick up at a different station.

This is quite a gamble though in your situation.

And also

Advance tickets for Abellio Greater Anglia services can be purchased up to 23.59 on the day before departure.

And

Greater Anglia Advance tickets are also available as Print Your Own and Mobile tickets, so you don't need to wait for them to be posted or have to collect them at stations!

It's all on the website

The station is Prittlewell Station in Southend. I'll be travelling to Liverpool Street Station. When booking online, the only ticket available was the anytime ticket for £28.90 (or something like that).

That sounds about the price I'd expect to pay on the day (assuming I can use the price from Chelmo as a guide). I'd take a guess that isn't any cheaper.
