Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 out soon

Seen a few screenshots and the preview video, but not much else. Early access in less than 24 hours, will be interested to see what it's like.

Varied reports on the official and unofficial forums. Biggest issue is N3V trying to retain backward compatibility for all the stuff created for the game since 2002. Just doesn't sit well in an updated graphics engine. They are also past masters at spinning vast improvements but not delivering. It took several patches to get the current version "TANE" into an acceptable state which then got broken again with further service packs and hotfixes.

Best thing about Trainz is the simple ease with which any semi-articulate user can build their own routes or layouts, vs. the other two big sims which offer a better driving experience but are far more techy when it comes to content creation.

As a train sim fan I will undoubtedly add this to my collection at some point, just not sure whether to buy into the early access hype.

Just seen the price N3V are asking for this - it's outrageous!

The base game is going to be US$70 which from what I can see contains very little content. If you want early access now you need to sign up to their Gold Service at either $14.99 a month or $149 a year. That gives all the DLC routes but presumably if you cancel the subscription those vanish, unless you buy them outright.

IMHO should have been £20 (or around $25) for early access and £30 ($35 - $40) on release particularly if the core game is bare bones.

Hopefully it will go on Steam and end up in the sale at Xmas or Easter next year, but it can rot at those prices.

Makes EA look positively philanthropic!

That's quite expensive for a game with not a lot of content, shame. I'm guessing the hardcore rail fans won't worry about that though.
I'll keep an eye on future sale prices.

You get their vault thing that eventually may get most/all DLC but feeds it to you in drips and drabs, the Gold level gives you 25% discount in the store for the bits you can't wait for / never make it.

What is the Content Vault?

  • The “Content Vault” is a collection of DLC items that you have access to for as long as you remain a member.
  • Your personalised Content Vault is “pre-loaded” with a “Starter Pack” full of DLC items.
  • Then each month you can select up to 5 additional items from our “Monthly Collection”.
  • The Monthly Collection contains a range of existing DLC items and is updated with a new collection on the 1st of each month.
  • Most DLC items will appear in a Monthly Collection 6-12 months after they first go on sale in our Store.
  • All items added to your Vault remain available to use for the duration of your membership.

I agree the price is OTT.

I will correct myself on the default content which is actually a fair selection...

Kickstarter County 2
Canadian Rockies
Sebino Lake (Italian)
Niddertalbahn
Cornish Main Line
Edinburgh to Dundee

But still worth nowhere near sixty quid! If they pitched it around £40 then I would more than likely purchase, otherwise as I said above - Steam sale.

I learnt my lesson with iRacing, if want subscriptions then content should be free. I won't be going there again anytime soon. Charging for both just messes with everything, especially when multi-player is involved.
