Trance is so vastly misunderstood...

Why?

You've got a weekly dose of Armin's 'A State of Trance' and currently Myon and Shane 54 are doing their weekly 'International Departures' which IMO has been absolutely fantastic, especially in the last 3-4 episodes.

Check out AllDJ for all the music you will ever need - and it's free!

My mate has recently started doing his own mini-radio show covering some really good progressive and trance. Even does his own tunes and mashups. Check out his page here - most notably the Cosmic Gate mix featuring lyrics from one of my missus own songs.

The new Gatecrasher 3CD Anthems album that Van Dyk has mixed is pretty cool... lots of old stuff mixed with other stuff I havent heard.

And I agree with the OP... lots of people automatically associate the word trance with stuff that Chavs and the like generally listen to and therefore associate it with trouble makers and the like.

I personally listen to Trance for one of two reasons..

A. When I'm at a club.
B. To relax.

And A&B is a very good place to start if you wanna listen to some real Trance.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. I love the Anjunadeep stuff and some of Anjunabeats as well. I always thought trance was all like that clubland **** you see advertised on TV but as I slowly moved from house/hed kandi towards progressive house and progressive trance I've learnt that it isn't though I always find myself having to inform people that when I say I like trance, its not like the stuff they see on TV.

Long summer night-time drives with some Roger Shah / Armin / Oceanlab etc, can't beat it  God I love trance, no other genre of music comes close to making me feel like trance does.

Here's another awesome blissful track:

Well, I'm not up on what's what in the Trance world anymore, I don't really like all the vocal stuff - but I used to play a lot of hard/psycadelic Trance (Noom, flying Rhino etc) at raves mid-late nineties.

Before that some of the tracks I used to listen to were trance, one of my faves is : Art of Trance - Gloria, rather chilled.

I just did a search for trance on OcUK and found this thread, and I cannot agree more with the title.

You are all my new best friends :)

I'm hearing "John O'Callahan", hell yes (though I'm not keen on his newer stuff, cheesy vocals ruin trance). Mauro Picotto... old school Chicane, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Blank & Jones, there are too many to list...

I have uploaded a 2 hour set of Armin's ASOT 221, which in my opinion is the best show he ever did (though I haven't been keeping up lately). All my trance brothers & sisters...

listen to this

It epitomises trance music at its best. Starts off chilled, then progresses into a giant pile of awesome.

Words cannot describe how much I am in love with this 2 hour mp3.

Armin van Buuren is a god IMO, phenomenal choices of tracks and his transitions are perfect.

He can be good, but he is no way a god. Sure, it's all subjective, but he goes overboard on the vocals most times.

His mixing and track selection is vastly superior to Tiesto at least, but out of the big name trance djs, when on form, no one can touch PvD. WHEN ON FORM, sometimes he plays some terrible tunes, lol.
