I'm currently experiencing a problem where if I transfer a file over the local network, my internet connection will suffer - pings to the bbc rise from 5ms to 600, and web pages load slowly, or just timeout.

Any ideas why this is? Looking at the task manager, 100% of the network is being used, so would I need some sort of QOS?

Er.. You mean to say, if you are using your network connection to transfer lots of data concurrently, your internet connection (via said network interface) goes slowly?

Yes, not just a little slowly, but slows to a crawl (minutes to load a webpage, timeouts, 600ms pings). I never remeber having this problem before when transfering lots of local data.

That's what a thought, but I'm sending the data from a gigabit nic to a gibabit router, then to a 100mbit nic.

So, I should be fine, no?

I've done some tests.

Sending from one to the other, internet unusable.

However, if I grab it from the other computer, internet fully useable.

I don't get it.

if all that fails you've probably maxed the throughput of your router.

They can only handle so much data going through them at any time.
