Transfer my OS?

Hi all,

Did a quick search but couldn't find any results (I do famously suck at searching though).

I'm looking at getting a shiny new SSD to be a boot disk but I was wondering if it was at all possible to get my current Windows 7 onto it?

I've heard it would be rejected if I tried a straight install from the DVD (I don't mind about settings or anything) and that I'd probably need to buy a new copy of Windows!! But that's stretching an already stretched budget way too far (and I'll end up with a pointless copy of windows...).

Is it possible to use the current disk to install anew on a new SSD or would I need to transfer it over somehow? Or is it not possible?

Cheers!
Howie.

No you can install off the Windows 7 DVD and activate it. If you bought the OEM version of Windows 7 when you replace the motherboard is when you have to buy a new copy most other components are fine.

P.S. I'd recommend reinstallation when changing drives there are other means to do this but I'd reinstall it as it only takes a few minutes a nice, clean install on a fresh drive is much better than trying to copy it over.
