7pin mini-DIN?
Going to use Vistas Windows Movie Maker as the software

Do I need any-more equipment to transfer the footage from VHS tapes to my computer successfully?

I'm pretty sure the video connectors on your graphics cards will be outputs not inputs.

You'll need some sort of capture card, I've just had a dig around there's a doofer called "Pinnacle Systems Dazzle Video Creator" which is an external USB device that'll do what you need (and will probably include all the software you need).

I'm sure there are other cheaper options if you're prepared to do some digging.

ok cool, I was thinking buying something like a DVB-T thing to get freeview/tv channels on my pc because I dont have a TV in my room, I prefer to use my monitor so will probably go for this option!

Good news, I have an old VCR/DVD dual combi kicking about which I think I can record to directyl! its a toshiba one and has 2 record buttons so i am fairly confident!

Thanks for the help! You are correct its a 7pin dim i thought it was the 9ping avivo which is video in video out etc

or simply buy a dvd recorder and plug the vcr in there copy it to dvd then put the dvd in to pc etc for editing, will prob be cheaper way and as easy.

you wont have any macrovision issues if there home made stuff, and of course if macrovisio does crop up as a problem you will need a dongle to correct it or an ati card to turn it of but that would be the same issue if you did the vcr to dvd recorder or vcr to pc inputs.

Please explain this to me because I am so confused and i really need the help im not being lazy
I read the guide at http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/318/5

I want to use my x850 xt pe that has a 9pin mini din on the back to transfer the vhs tapes to my pc using my vcr that has s-video & aux connections Red/white/yellow x2 & scart
I want the best quality possible by spending the littlest amount!

My x850 xt pe didnt come with a 9pin mini din lead so is this the correct one? http://www.hottestdealever.com/prod_img/HDE/HDE-A85-A.jpg
Next To record the video I need RCA cable to transfer the video? http://ccsupplies.info/images/auctions/rcarcaav.jpg
Lastly I need jack to RCA to convert the audio because my x850 xt pe vivo wont record the audio correct? http://partywarehouse.co.nz/zen/images/RCACable.jpg

This means the RCA is connected to the 9pin mini din lead for video?
This means the RCA>Jack is connected to my line in for sound?
I am now using the correct setup to begin the transfer using the software of my choice!

I looked at something like easycap 2.0 but that means I still need to buy the leads and it still costs me £10 extra for the same job as using my VIVO output on x850 xt pe?

Sorry for all the horrible questions but my heads baffled :(
