Hi
i have a new motherboard and need to transfer my cpu (x2 4400+) over, however i remember not long ago i tried to remove the stock hsf from the cpu and could not do it as it seemed stuck on. whats the trick for this?
also i havnt got any as5 or articlean to use on it, will it be a big disadvantage? ive heard that stock hsf has a cooling thing on it anyway.
I hope someone can help.
Thanks.

Michael.

First off if you havn't got any thermal paste to apply to the heatsink then do not remove what you have. If you havn't used the amd stock heatsink then there should be a square of thermal paste attached to the bottom, this is fine to use unless it has been used previously.

To remove the HS from the cpu first run a benchmark or play a game for a while to heat up the paste. When you remove the HS give it a couple of twists first before pulling it away from the cpu.

Errr well at the risk of being beaten by people on here I normally very gently twist the heatsink from side to side until it comes free.

You will need to buy some thermal paste as the stock heatsinks come with a thermal pad which can only be used once. You will need to clean the CPU and heatsink before applying the paste...
