Transfering data to new hard drive

hey i need some help

ok i have a new HDD. i currently have 2 HDD's in my pc i want to copy all of my data (inculded installed software) from my HDD that doesn't have windows on (D onto my new hard drive could i just copy and paste everything (wait serveral hours) then take out my old drive and re assign my new drive to D: would the games etc i have installed on there still work

No, ghost the disk

Sorry, to be more clear. Ghost the non-windows drive to the new drive then remove the old drive. Once windows is happy that the ghosted disk 'is' the old one then reformat the old disk.
