right. the family pc is old its way to the scraper in the sky, but its has a bunch of photos of my late grandparents which i want to save, unfortunatley i cant get on the pc to put them on cd.

so can i just whack the old hdd in my other pc (its an ide drive - my pc has 2 sata drives, so there is and ide channel free) and open it in my computer

or will i have to put it in my pc, then do something for windows to see it. just as long as i dont have to format the drive

just put it in, everything should be fine aslong as you make sure the jumper on the hard drive is correct. If its not then the pc won't see the drive in windows mode. It will come up as another drive letter once its installed.
