hi guys this may be a daft question but im not sure of it so i just want to make sure if it can be done.

ok you see im making new rig and selling mu old rig in components bits. i want to keep my 1tb hard-drive winch has windows 7 os in it

so my question is would it be possible to transfer the hard-drive on my new rig with the os still on it and will it work on my new rig or will it have conflict with new mobo and cpu.

look forward to ur reply's

Is it an oem or retail version of Win 7? If it is retail it should work. If it is oem you cannot reuse it as it is tied to the motherboard.

I've transferred the licence from OEM versions of Windows to other systems so you shouldn't have an issue as that.

Your issue will be that the drivers required for the new system are likely to be different to the old one unless the systems are quite similar.

You may not even be able to boot into Windows.

Back up your data and do a fresh install.

its retail windows 7 unlimited i have the original disk but i have it on my nieces laptop and on this this pc im using now.

the mobo its on is gigabyte g31m- es2l socket 775, CPU petiuium 4

the new rig is most likly going to be 1 of the asus z77 boards and ive already bought the cpu its ib 3770k

so my best option to to fresh install on ssd card use this 1tb hd has storage one more question couldi access my programs if stored in storage harddrive rather then the ssd or do they have to be in the boot drive ssd to access the programs.

i dont think it worked when i swapped from p4 to a z68 without a reinstall,it worked fine swapping hdd/oss from h55 to x58 and z68,win7 just installed the drivers i needed ect

best results would be to save all your data and do a clean install
