I'm setting up my No.1 daughter with a new Win 7 PC, and am in the process of transferring her XP stuff to the new PC. Things have gone well, so far. Have been using an 80 GB USB H/D and have successfuly transferred her Thunderbird and
Firefox e-mails, addressbook, bookmarks etc. using Mozbak. Next stage is to set up a non-administrator account for the G'son. How can I trasfer his applications and games over as I don't know where the install devices are - family breakup amd I don't want to go begging. So any help here would be gratefully appreciated.

Have come to my senses and realised I'm not doing the Great North Run any more. An age related decision!

In short, you can't. The kernel and registry hives are totally different. The games are really not likely to work anyway but if you had the source media, you could run them in compatibility mode

You really are best trying to get the install media. If it was Vista to 7, or 7 to 7 I would just copy the game folders over and they should work. Games generally keep all the files in one place and the only registry entries are for uninstallation and shortcuts etc.

XP to 7 might work regarding games - it depends on the game really as some will work, some wont.

Normal applications may or may not work. I would never try to copy an application folder over as it will probably not work unless it is very simple. It is even less likely to work going from XP to 7.
