Ok folks, my launch day 360 packed in over the weekend, and I've decided to take the plunge and just get an Elite. I know about the whole transfer cable fiasco and I'm hoping to avoid it all together.

I don't really have anything that drastically important that I need to transfer over, apart from a couple of Arcade purchases. Can I just re-download them to the new machine? Will I be able to move them via the memory card? Or am I going to need the transfer cable to do it due to DRM rubbish?

Any advice appreciated!

Thank you very much sir! :)

You won't be able to play the Arcade games unless you are connected to Live (I think using the transfer cable gets around this and actually transfers the licenses to your new console). You can also call MS and give them grief and they can do it over the phone (from what I have read).

But, if you are online like me all the time, it is not even an issue (I never bothered transferring my Arcade games from my first broken 360 to my current one and it has not caused me any noticeable inconvenience).

Using the transfer cable does not get around the DRM. You still need to be connected to Live to play any transfered games.

As far as i know, there's no way around it bar hassling MS, and even then, you might need to make a new account.

Thank your lucky stars your Internet connection behaves then. It's despicable behaviour from Microsoft quite frankly. Even they don't know how to fix the issue of transferring content from one Xbox to another.

Ah yeah, I agree, the DRM is useless if they can;t transfer it between machines. For me I don't have that many Arcade games that I play that often so it has never been a problem for me, but it is a rubbishy solution, as the fact they have done it over the phone for people means it is technically feasible, they just want to make you jump through hoops to do it.
