Hi i have just traded my fat 60gb 360 for a slim 250gb 360 but just before i did i made a backup image of the data from my fat 360.
Anyway im having problems geting the data on to the 250gb drive.
Does any one know of a way i can do this?
Thanks.

You made a backup image, using the Xbox software? Or something else?

The way you go about it is using a portable harddrive or usb stick, you can transfer up to 16GB (I think it is) to the drive using the inbuilt transfer utility. This should be more than enough for gamer profiles and saved games and videos. Any installed games will need to be reinstalled anyways and you can always get your DLC back.

Then just plug the drive into the new console and use the in built transfer again.

It's a lot easier than it used to be.

I have used a program called xport 360 and made a complete image of all data on my hhd and now its saying thres problems geting it on my new 250gb hhd

Perhaps because that's not an official method of doing it and something you aren't really supposed to do... most likely because the cloned data knows it's a different console. That's why when you use the export thingy it transfers the stuff of the original Xbox.

even if you had an external hdd you could have placed all your dlc or such onto it and then just plugged it in and transfered it over. i doubt there would be much chance of getting your data back unless you ran down to the store you traded into and mentioned what you've done and transfer it there and then with your slim with you ? goodluck!

Guessing he formatted it before trading.
Bit silly using some dodgy unofficial program when you could have just whacked your profiles, downloads and saves onto a flash drive / external drive.
You're stuck with recovering your gamertag and trying to remember all the dlc/xbla you own :(
That sucks.
