Hi guys, need some quality advice.

My cousin has a mini-dv camera that he used to take a movie of my brothers wedding and I need to get it onto my pc and then create some kind of dvd out of it to pass along to all the family.

Its a new camera for my cousin and he has no idea how to get it on to a pc.

We got as far as me getting a firewire pci card and the correct cable to connect the camera, but now the hard part.

What software would you recommend for transferring the dv tapes to my pc and editing them and creating dvd's from them?

Should I be moving them at full dv size which is like 250mb a min?

I know basically nothing about this kind of thing so any advice to get me going would be great.

wont windows movie maker import them?

my dad does video editing on vaio computers where theres already DV importing softwares (he dont use DV but i sometimes do). so i cant help much about that point

I looked at windows movie maker but it seemed to be creating .wmv files and I dont how you turn that into a dvd with a scene selection and menu.

I just had someone recommend Roxio VideoWave as a simple easy to use software. Anyone heard of it?

cant help with that software. but the proceedures i took were,

import with DV something
edit with adobe premier
and export with dvd maker..

adobe premier do a 'elements' version now. You could use that. I personally use Sony Vegas, which has a import program built in. Also, have a DVD creation program with that, but can be costly, luckily employer pays for the licence!

Normally you get software bundled with the camera. Failing that, you could use moviemaker to edit the video, then buy a program to create dvd menu's/
