Transferring from PC to PS3

I very nearly bought a PS3, but being the tight git that I am I thought i'd read up about it first and I'm glad I did.

Could any PS3 owner or someone who's clued up on this sort of thing verify that there is actually no way to transfer data from your PC hard drive to your PS3 hard-drive? If that's the case Sony has pretty much kissed goodbye to their wad of cash from me, because that's such a basic requirement for me.

Thanks but you didn't really answer my question. :P

I watch many series and with my old Xbox I was able to transfer them across the network to the console and watch them on my big TV.

Why should I buy an external hard drive when they're asking £400 for something that's lacking basic functionality?

If you want music, pictures and videos, you can stream from the PC onto the PS3.

I read that you can't stream stuff from your hard drive to the ps3, that's what i'm asking.

You can. The photos, music and pictures options on the PS3's cross media bar has a 'search for media servers' option. You click this, the PS3 will search the network its on, and if it finds your PC, it can happily access and stream files from the PC that it can play. There are certain movie formats and such that the PS3 will not touch, such as WMV and AVI so make sure you take a look at the playback capabilities as well as what you want to play before buying first :)

You can stream stuff though. Was added in a recent firmware update - I have never done it myself but have a mate who has and said it was failry easy to do.

Yeah it was my fault you made an assumption, jeeez. You seriously think that a £400 console in this day and age shouldn't be able to transfer files to the hard drive? My modded original xbox could do that. :|

well...yeah. you werent very clear lol

What are you yammering on about? _THIS_ is the assumption you made and it was completely unrelated to anything that I have said, stop trying to take a dig at my intelligence when you edit every post multiple times, I've got my answer so I'll no longer reply.

what did i edit? my last post? i only changed it from " its not necessary when you can stream, dont you think?" to " its a bit unnecessary....". do you have a problem with me re wording posts to read better?

that last post was the only edit by the way. im not going to take a dig at your intelligence for that one.
