Transferring gamer profile and saved games from dead Xbox to new one?

As per my previous two threads, I appear to have been saddled with a 'dead' Xbox. :(

Getting no picture but sound is fine, have tried it on 3 different TV's through component input and all of them exhibit the same symptoms. You can hear the splash screen and hear it signing in to Xbox Live but there is no image. Got no red flashing lights or anything of that ilk but no matter what I do I can't get the image to come back. Tried holding Y+Right Trigger to reset the resolution to default 480i and this has been successful once for a brief moment but thereafter it hasn't worked.

Anyhow, I've just given up on it and ordered a brand new 360S 250Gb. I'm going to have a go at reflowing the dead one and replacing the thermal paste etc but if it still refuses to show any signs of life it's going in the bin.

So, in preperation for the new one turning up on Friday, how do I go about moving my saved games (GTA V mainly) to the new Xbox? I had been mainly saving on the 360 hard drive although I have got a couple of saved games on my 16Gb memory stick that I installed one of the GTA disks to. That said, those saves are a good percentage behind in terms of game progress so I'd rather salvage the ones off the 360 hd if that is at all possible?

Also, how do I go about transferring my gamer profile or is that even required? Can I just fire up the new 360S and sign in using my details or are there files of some sort i need to get off the old hard drive to achieve this properly?

Many thanks in advance for any advice folks. :)

99% sure that'll be the HANA chip (or rather its BGA solder) at fault. It is the chip responsible for video scaling & output. It is the square black IC close to the video output ports at the back of the machine.
It is unlikely it'll be the GPU so if you're 'reflowing' ghetto style with a hot air gun I wouldn't reflow that at first as you may introduce a second fault.
Either reflow the HANA chip, or if you're disposing of the console anyway, applying a constant decent amount of pressure on the chip should get your video output back allowing you to copy your saves off of the console to a USB stick. Either wrap a stack of pennies (about 10-15 or so - enough to give a slight press against the HANA) in electrical tape and rest the upper case back on with something heavyish on top, or put a heavy weight on an upturned bottle cap or something similar - you get the idea :)

You'll need the Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Kit. Just connect that to your new console and it'll transfer everything over. It'll take a bit of time, a couple of hours probably, but it'll transfer everything over and you'll be good to go :)

Cheers, there's a link on that page which explains how to move stuff via a USB drive. Think that will suffice as I only really want to get my profile and GTA V saved games off it, there's nothing else on there I need. :)

Finished performing a basic reflow this afternoon. Refitted the heatsinks after cleaning up the grey gloop from the GPU and CPU and applying fresh Arctic Silver 5. Put it all back together (X-Clamp was a bit fiddly) and fired it up. Lo and behold it works fine. For how long is anyones guess but it has given me a chance to grab the stuff I need from it. I'll do the fan shroud mod later and run the thing until Friday when the 360S turns up.
