Transferring my music.

Using itunes on my netbook and have a lot of music on the system. Now im looking at getting a new machine maybe mac maybe not still unsure. Anyway the point is do i have to move all of my music onto a usb hdd and then re install it on the new machine or is there a simpler way??

Basically all you have to do in terms of copying the music is copy the iTunes Music folder in My Music on the netbook to a external hdd and then import it into iTunes on the Mac and make sure it makes a copy of it on the Mac (it's in the preferences in iTunes).

Or you could even share the files over your network by turning on home sharing and then just copying all your music from one computer to another.

Would copying the Itunes folder work in the same way if i was to do it to a new PC or is it only an option for a Mac?
